Do I need to book or can I just walk in:
Walk-ins are welcome, however booking with your preferred Flying Fury Franchise beforehand will ensure you have access to a lane at your preferred time.
How does it work:
All events start with signing of an indemnity form per participant, a safety instruction, how to throw an axe and a couple of practice throws. Scorecards with the rules and various games are distributed… let the games begin!
Is it safe:
Flying Fury axe throwing lanes are built with safety in mind. Lanes are fully contained except for the entry opening. Furthermore, the floor covering is impact absorbent to ensure any axe not pegging in the target will drop safely without excessive bouncing. Side safety screens run the full length of the lane, and behind the thrower, the lane has a safety screen for the safety of all spectators and participants awaiting their turn.
Flying Fury provides safety protocol training to all franchisees to ensure they can offer axe throwing safely. All participants will be briefed on the safety protocols before you start. Only the active competitor whose turn it is, is allowed within the throwing area. All other competitors and spectators are required to wait behind the safety screens.
Following the safety protocols, together with a little common sense, will ensure that everyone is safe and can enjoy axe throwing to its fullest.
What should I wear:
We strongly recommend wearing closed shoes, although whether this will be a qualifying criteria will be up to the establishment you intend to visit.
Avoid restrictive clothing as some techniques require that you lift both hands over your head. Comfortable, non-restrictive clothing will ensure that you can perform at your best… “restrictive clothing” will not be accepted as an excuse for bad form and low scores.
Minimum age requirements:
There are no minimum or maximum age requirements but rather, the participant must be able to easily pick-up and control their axe. Flying Fury franchises axes weigh in at around 600g.
Generally, anyone aged 12 and up should be pretty comfortable with the weight of the axe and able to compete safely. The practice throws will be under supervision to ensure every participant understands the safety protocols and can compete safely.
Participants younger than 18 will require that their indemnity form is signed by an adult.
What does it cost:
Flying Fury’s Recommended Retail Price for 2023:
Please note that price variance may occur between Flying Fury franchises and should be checked with the location you intend to visit.
